Seeking the Lord

My friends and I have noticed that the more we grow up the more narrow the path to Jesus feels. We see less and less people truly seeking out Jesus.

For many of us we feel like we are in the middle of a tug-a-war. When we are in the middle, we are the most vulnerable. This is why it is important to seek God out with all your heart. As a wise woman once said to me, “You can’t sit on top of that fence forever, at some point you’re going to need to land on a side.” I don’t know about you, but I would rather be on God’s side.

The idea of seeking out God is really put into perspective in 2nd Chronicles 12. In this chapter of 2nd Chronicles, Rehoboam has established himself as king and has become very strong. With this strength came pride and he and all of Israel abandoned the law of the Lord. Because they were unfaithful to God, God allowed the Egyptian king (Shishak) to attack Jerusalem. The Lord said, “You have abandoned me, therefore I now abandon you to Shishak.”

Their response was not of anger, sorrow, or fear. They humbled themselves and said, “the Lord is just.”

Since they humbled themselves, God decided not to destroy them through Shishak but deliver them. God then said, “They will, however, become subject to him so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands.”

Rehoboam was established, firmly, as king because he humbled himself before God. It then says, “He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord.”

If our hearts are truly set, fully set on seeking the Lord then we will not intentionally sin. That being said, it is extremely hard to do. It is a constant fight and to continually do it, we have to be continually motivated to be close with God.

Temptations are going to come up, it’s a part of life. Fighting temptation is not supposed to be on our shoulders. If we are truly seeking God, then we are allowing him to fight those battles for us.

A life with a heart set on God is the most fulfilling.

With a heart fully set on Christ, we can remain in unwavering faith. We have the strength to say no to temptation. We can have true hope, true peace, true rest, and true love.

Every need you could possibly have can be filled through seeking Christ.

It is not easy and you have to actually want it.

This week, I challenge you to take a look at how you use your time. (As I will also be doing)

What are you putting before God?

Time is the #1 excuse Christians use for not spending time with God. It doesn’t need to be 2 hours, it can literally be 5 minutes. So lets all be a little more intentional with God and press pause on the TV, take a walk outside, or sit in our car for an extra couple minutes and just listen.

The more time you spend with Him, I guarantee you will want to spend more and more as time goes on.
