Hello everyone, it’s been a while. Safe to say that I have struggled lately with truly setting aside time to intentionally sit with God and listen to Him. Over the past couple weeks, I’ve talked with several people and they have expressed their struggle with hearing from God. I’ll be the first to admit – it’s not easy. In this world with all the distractions and the busyness of life it can be rare to hear from God, but it also depends where your focus is.
God speaks in many ways.
Although He absolutely can speak in big ways, events, and miracles, it’s a rarity. Jesus loved to work in the quiet and intimate moments. Yes, he can be loud and flip tables, but there is something so special about a one-on-one moment with Jesus.
Jesus also made sure to take quiet moments with God. In Mark 1:35-37, it says Jesus was praying in a solitary place.
How often do you and I take moments to ourselves to pray in a solitary place and not just check the boxes or rush time?
If you are asking to see Him and you have heard nothing and seen nothing, you are looking for Him to speak inside the box of your expectations.
We cannot fit God into a box. (and He knows I’ve tried)
If you intentionally take the time to sit with Him and truly read His word (no distractions, no rushing), He will reveal something to you. Even if it’s the smallest word or verse that tugs at you a little more than the others.
It’s easy to get caught up in the way our world works and it’s easy to expect God to just fit himself where it’s convenient, but God has never worked in a convenient way.
“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.’” Matthew 16:24
Look in the unlikely places, I guarantee He’s there.
In the coffee shop, on your drive, in the quiet, in the loud, in the laughter, in the sadness, in nature, in the city, in your loved ones, and in strangers – His beauty – His voice is seen and heard everywhere.
Take a moment, stay still, and look around.

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’” Mark 6:31
