It seems like a common theme in life is waiting. Waiting for the time to pass, waiting for that certain person, waiting till life gets good again, etc. I had prayed for God to give me words that people needed to hear and he delivered. So here it is:
Your waiting period is not just a time to sit and stare at a wall.
It is not a time to sit and think of all the possibilities, of all the things that could go wrong, or of all the things that could go right. It is a time to focus. It is a time to learn. A time to sit in the presence of God and listen.
This waiting period is not a time of nothing. He is working, even if it is not apparent in the moment. He is always working in you, through you, and through others to you.
You may have written this “picture perfect” story in your mind about how you want your life to go, even down to the last detail. Honestly, it is probably not going to happen that way. I know that can sound sad and disappointing, but guess what!
God’s plans are GREATER, BETTER, INTENTIONAL, and overall the best story that anyone could have written for your life.
You may say, “How is it such a great story when I’m _______?“
You could fill in that blank with a million different things: sad, mad, lonely, in a rough situation, in a constant cycle of depression, etc. That terrible, not-so-fun thing has a purpose. A purpose you can learn and grow from, but only if you are looking for where you can learn and grow.
Don’t just sit in the waiting, staring at the wall, thinking to yourself of all the possibilities of what could happen. Those possibilities are endless and you most likely will not think of the right one.
Look to God, ask him to open your eyes, open your mind, and open your heart to all the possibilities of what you can learn in the midst of what could happen. The moment you look for knowledge and wisdom is the moment revelations will be found.
We go through trials so that we may be refined.
One definition of refined is: to be brought back to the original owner. God allows trials to happen to bring you back to Him. God will give you more than you can handle so that you will come back to Him and let Him carry all of the baggage that you were never meant to carry in the first place.
Cast your cares to the Lord with all your might.
Casting is not just a one-and-done thing; it is a constant reminder to not take back control and to not take on all your baggage again.
Waiting can be the hardest thing, especially when you are anticipating something great to happen, a breakthrough to happen, the rainbow after the storm. When you look at waiting it may seem like the worst thing, because it feels like nothing is happening.
It probably feels like nothing is happening because you are staring at a wall instead of God.
Your focus is not on how he could be working, it’s on how what’s happening is not what you wanted, or what you planned. Well…His plans are greater, better, and more intentional than yours or mine could ever be.
My encouragement to you is to seek knowledge and wisdom in the middle of trials, because it will grow you more than you can ever imagine. Do not dwell on the past or the future; focus on the present and the current opportunities at hand. If we focus on the past or future we often miss the new things God is placing in our lives, because we are not focused on Him. He is always doing new things.
